Naturalistic tours in Ravenna and Ferrara through the Valleys of Comacchio


A walk in the Po Delta Park
Through the natural areas of Ravenna and Ferrara, it's usually dirt ruts passable on foot or by bicycle, to a lesser extent are short stretches of paved road with little traffic.
 Most of the trails are equipped with display panels and illustrative for the birds and directional signs. This map doesn’t show, however, no indication of these  signs. The environments are characterized by the presence of rare plant species and scientific interest, a rich and peculiar fauna, in which the component is undoubtedly the most extraordinary bird lovers and ornithologists that draws in every season.

1. Itinerary by foot : Cà Vecchia (Ravenna area) 1 hour ½

The ring itinerary takes place around the Cà Vecchia. The dirt rut crosses the moist hollows of Pirottolo and Cavedone until the embankments of the brackish lagoon Pialassa Baiona.

2. Itinerary by foot : Cà Nuova (Ravenna area) 1 hour ½

The ring itinerary reaches Cà Nuova, covers the internal areas of the San Vitale pinewood until its east side on the Chiaro del Pontazzo in Pialassa Baiona. It goes along the north of the ancient drainage canal named via Cerba, starting point of the itinerary.

3. Itinerary by foot : Punta Alberete (Ravenna area) 1 hour ½

4. Itinerary by foot – birdwatching

from the fishing resort Foce alla Salina di Comacchio, to Valle di Fossa Porto, until Valle Zavelea (2 hours) Comacchio- Ferrara

The itinerary start from the fishing resort Foce, and it goes for about 9 km. Turning left you can reach the Valle Uccelliera, a brackish hollow with flocks of different species of ducks, in particular in winter and during migrations. Going further, you’ll find the Salina di Comacchio, where many other species of birds such as seagulls and flamingos live in colonies and nest.
Again from Stazione Foce, turning right, you can go along the embankment Fossa Foce which takes for 5 km towards Valle Zavalea. Here it is possible to sight the most important species of the Valli di Comacchio. The itinerary ends at Valle Zavelea, until the turret where you can see the wetland, with cane thickets  where many species of aquatic birds nest. 
At the end, always starting from Stazione Foce, it is possible to take a boat to visit the Valli di comacchio and make interesting sightings. The itinerary goes along the north side of Valle Fossa di Porto, with many hillrocks where important colonies of birds live.

5. Itinerary by foot – birdwatching

Valle Furlana, da Boscoforte a Volta Scirocco (2 hours) Comacchio- FerraraThe itinerary on the embankment, starting at the famous Boscoforte peninsula, unravels for 6.5 km towards the Adria Sea, until Volta Scirocco.
From here you’ll reach Lavadena, with a patchwork of dunes covered by vegetation where important species of birds nest.
Beyond, the low waters of Scorticata host many other aquatic birds. From the equipped shed in the quiet flood plain Volta Scirocco it is possible to observe many species of the birds living and nesting in the area.
